Dundee Accelerator Showcase: Leximos

The Dundee Accelerator Programme was a 6-month venture building programme led by The Ventures Lab in partnership with the Dundee City Council, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. We supported 8 innovative impact-led ventures in Dundee with their products, services, models, or technologies that had the potential to be game-changers in their sectors.

AI is not just about bringing economic efficiencies and technology advancement, but also a tool to create a positive social impact.  In this Dundee Accelerator Showcase we spotlight Leximos, and the learnings it has made on how to deliver positive impact in a commercially sustainable manner as part of the Dundee Accelerator Programme

Introduction

Leximos provides bespoke chatbots and AI agents that break language barriers, automate workflows, and enhance accessibility for everyone. It is founded by Mr Sayed Murad an AI engineer, former united nations linguist, and entrepreneur driven by lived experience. His journey began by teaching refugee children languages so they could go to school, or adults languages so they could work.  His journey brought him to the UK,where he studied Computer Science at the University of Dundee. As a Chevening Scholar, award-winning founder, and someone who's personally faced the barriers that Leximo aim to solve, he built Leximos with a clear mission: to create tech that's not only smart, but compassionate.

Through the Dundee Accelerator Programme, The Ventures Lab began by assessing the existing competence and competitive advantage of Leximos.  They then worked with Leximos to identify potential customers and beneficiaries to sustain its social impact, informed by the UK language education competitive landscape and industry needs.

Afterwards, The Ventures Lab helped to assess and refine the resources needed to maintain cost efficiency and validated the operational model of Leximos, from AI model development to marketing.

“The informative sessions were particularly valuable, as they guided usthrough a comprehensive assessment of our operations, strategy, and impactpotential. These sessions allowed us to gain clarity on our strengths andpinpoint specific areas requiring development.” Mr Sayed Murad, Leximos

What has been achieved and what are the lessons learned?

From Leximos’ story, key reflections include:

·      Understanding the customer and beneficiary are not necessarily the same person.  If we find the right customer with incentives, we can still deliver a positive impact.

·      AI is a powerful tool but we need to be clear about how it exactly fits into our model.

“The knowledge and insights gained from the entire program have beentransformative for Leximos. We've been able to implement strategic improvementsbased on the program's guidance, resulting in more focused operations andenhanced impact potential.”  Mr SayedMurad, Leximos
